How much is a bowl of Shark Fin Soup?

I'm Asian and I loved shark fin soup.

I mean, seriously, who doesn't? The soup is the best! But is it really... the best?

I recently came across videos on Youtube, 'Gordon Ramsey: Shark Bait'. Those videos made me think, is it really worth it to have that bowl of soup? It is expensive after all, but more importantly, we are killing these sharks JUST for their fins, while tossing their bodies back to the ocean. Some sharks are even endangered and protected species!

What annoys me more, shark fin soup actually have very little nutritional value. The myths about shark fin soup that it will make you stronger, healthier, younger, etc. That's rubbish. Having shark fin soup is merely a symbol of wealth and power. So you're actually having that dish, believing that you're better than everyone else.

Looking back to the history, shark fin soup were served for the emperors. That is why shark fin soups are served during special occasions. But do mind the fact that "73 million sharks a year are being served up to make celebration soup."

So how much does a bowl of Shark Fin Soup really cost? The depleting population of endangered species? Or the fact that we're jeopardizing the ocean ecosystems? The prestige of eating shark fin soup is just made up. Think again before you order that on the menu.

Finally, enjoy the 3 videos that I mentioned earlier. Cheers!

My Friend is in a Great Danger

Do you remember watching Flipper, the kind & friendly dolphin?
See this cute video if you don't remember Flipper!

Flipper was the icon of his species. I remembered when I was 5, I love Flipper so much that I went to the Aquarium every weekend to see dolphins. I forgot how that feels until I watched the Cove last year. It was such a sad story. Why in the hell did they do such a cruel thing to the harmless dolphins?

If you haven't watched the documentary yet, I suggest you to watch it NOW. It is the best documentary of all time. Seriously. I truly respect the team who put this documentary  together and struggling with the Japanese government to stop this cruelty.

My friend is in a great danger and we are his only hope.

Mr. Taxi Driver, what's your story today?

Have you ever been on a life-changing taxi ride of your life? Well, consider going to Buenos Aires and experience TEDx Taxi Driver ride.

Taxi drivers are indeed our best friend during the day or night. They're available 24/7, respond to our emergency-call-for-ride quickly, and they love to talk while driving - if you're lucky, they're sometimes very entertaining. Despite the public views that belittle these public servants, TEDxBuenosAires sees an important role that they play in our society.

Enjoy this clip below about TEDx Taxi Drivers! They are indeed the city's most remarkable speakers.

So next time you're on a taxi ride. Talk to your taxi driver. They might have something interesting to tell!

Practice your GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP. Support JAPAN.

As we have all witnessed through news and internet, the earthquake on March 11th 2011 has affected not only the Japanese, but all of us as well. When I think about what can I do for my brothers and sisters in Japan, I think about us, as the citizens of this world.

Many has preached that today's world has become so much integrated, that we are not only a citizen for a particular country, but also a citizen of the world. That's when the term 'Global Citizenship' was invented. In an organization that I worked for, AIESEC, we embrace that term deeply.

AIESEC started over 60 years ago with a mission to foster ‘World Peace’. Since then, every AIESECer has been working towards that goal. I believe this is the time when we can truly say that AIESEC is still holding on to our original mission which is World Peace, by helping Japan in creating peace in their country and eventually peace to the rest of the world who is affected by this tragedy.

However, I want to invite all of you, not just AIESECer, to support Japan in this tragedy.

Those who want to help can donate through http://tinyurl.com/redcrossDONATEjapan or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

Help your brothers and sisters in Japan. Embrace your 'Global Citizenship'.
